Nicaragua Maragogype

from $10.00

SACACLI Collective - San Rafael del Norte, Jinotega, Nicaragua - Maragogype Varietal

Tasting Notes: Toasted Marshmallow - Graham Cracker - Trail Mix - Smoke

Black Rose’s new Black Label coffee is one I’ve been chasing for a long time.

The legendary “Elephant Bean”, easily the size of two large coffee beans and four or five peaberry beans. Maragogype takes a lot of care to get right. Producers at SACACLI Collective take extra care to keep this particularly-prone varietal free of leaf rust and disease. Once harvested and washed, it needs to be roasted in smaller quantities due to their huge size..

Maragogype demands to be roasted truly low-and-slow, as delicate as possible while still allowing for steady development in the roaster. I bring it to slightly over light, to highlight toasty sweetness, dried fruit, and nuts, along with a pleasant, lingering smoky aroma. It has its own setting on my roaster!

The challenge and resulting flavor and aroma profile says Black Rose through and through. It’s the kind of thing I love, and when you experience it for yourself, you’ll know the extra effort was worth it.

I only have about 30 lbs, so I’m sorry but it isn’t available in kilos! Get it while you can!

Enjoy :-)

MARAGOGYPE?!?

(pronounced: “MAA-ra-go-YEE-pay”)

Maragogype is an exceptional and uncommon coffee variety. Yet, growing it presents some unique challenges, as this variety is more susceptible to rust, pests, and diseases and demands a high level of attention and care.

The beans themselves have a lower density, which hides their true potential. Gentle handling and thoughtful roasting are necessary to unlock its delicate floral notes.

At SACACLI, the skilled farmers take excellent care of their unique Maragogype coffee trees. Each cherry is meticulously selected and processed with great attention.
